Today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 on was the charts August 21st, 1982. From Marshall Crenshaw it’s “Someday Someway”.
The singer from the Detroit area began playing guitar at 10 years old and got his first career break in 1978 playing John Lennon in the touring musical “Beatlemania”. In May of ’82 he released what would become his only top 40 hit “Someday Someway” from his self-titled debut album. He called the song a “Eureka” moment, saying the song was created from a sound that had been forming in his head.
Often compared to Buddy Holly, Marshall actually played the role of Buddy in La Bamba in 1987 and he was the co-writer of the Gin Blossoms 90’s hit “Til I Hear It From You”.
I found a video of him performing the song on the David Letterman show, from 1982 it’s Marshall Crenshaw with “Someday Someway” it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
