105.7 KOKZ is your home for classic American Top 40 shows every weekend. This Saturday morning from 8 to noon, Casey Kasem takes us back to June 16th, 1979! One of the songs from the show is today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Van Halen with “Dance The Night Away”.
David Lee Roth, Michael Anthony, and the Van Halen brothers Eddie & Alex burst onto the music scene in 1978 with their classic debut album “Van Halen”. Featuring classic tunes like “Runnin’ With the Devil”, “You Really Got Me”, and “Jamie’s Cryin”, the album was certified Diamond with sales of over 10 million copies. In March of ’79 they released “Van Halen II” with “Dance The Night Away” as the first single, the song became the band’s second top 40 hit reaching #15 on the charts.
Fun fact, in the liner notes with the album, the band thanks the Sheraton Inn in Madison, Wisconsin. During their first tour they destroyed the seventh floor with fire extinguisher fights and threw TV’s out the window. Ah….boys will be boys! From 1979 it’s Van Halen with “Dance the Night Away” it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
