Singer-songwriter Edie Brickell turns 60 years old today! In celebration, today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 is her 1988 hit “What I Am”.
Ranked as one of the Top 100 One Hit Wonders of the 80’s by VH1, “What I Am” by Edie & New Bohemians was released in November of ’88 from their album “Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars”. The quirky little tune went to #1 in Canada and to #7 in the U.S.
The song changed the course of her life when she met her future and current husband Paul Simon while performing the song on Saturday Night Live. She said she noticed him standing in front of a camera. She’s said they can show the tape of that show to their three kids and say “that’s the first time we laid eyes on each other!”
