As I was winding down on Sunday night mindlessly flipping channels, I landed on the 1984 Eddie Murphy classic “Beverly Hills Cop” so for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 how about the theme from the movie by Harold Faltermeyer with “Axel F”.
Eddie Murphy’s star was on the rise in the 80’s joining Saturday Night Live at the age of 19 in 1980 and it wasn’t long until he was a Hollywood icon. His first movie was the 1982 “48 Hours” with Nick Nolte followed the 1983 film “Trading Places” with Dan Aykroyd. In 1984 he played Axel Foley a Detroit cop in “Beverly Hills Cop” a movie that became the #1 movie of that year grossing over 300 million dollars.
In December of that year the Beverly Hills Cop Soundtrack was released and featured hits like “The Heat Is On” by Glenn Frey and “New Attitude” by Patti Labelle. “Axel F” was the third hit from the album by German musician Harold Faltermeyer who took the instrumental to #3 on the charts.
The video features Harold using a computer and a floppy disc! Check out “Axel F” it’s today’s Forgotten 45!
