It’s Weird Al Jankovic’s birthday! So in celebration of his 66th trip around the sun today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 is his parody of Madonna “Like a Surgeon”.
Since having one of his song played on the Dr. Demento show when he was only 16, Weird Al has delighted audiences with over 150 different songs and over 2,000 live performances. Of course it his career timed up perfectly with the popularity of MTV and it can be argued they both helped each other!
The idea for “Like a Surgeon” came from Madonna herself when she was walking with a friend and wondered if Al would do a version of her song “Like a Virgin”. The friend knew Al’s manager and rest is comedy history. “Like a Surgeon” appears on his 1985 album “Dare To Be Stupid”.
