It was one of the most powerful earthquakes to hit a highly populated area as the quake registered 7.1 on the Richter scale killing 67 people and causing billions of dollars of damage. Baseball fans remember the coverage of the pre-game show of Game 3 on ABC with Al Michaels & Tim McCarver as the quake hit 4 minutes into their broadcast at 7:04pm Central time. The game was postponed ten days as the A’s eventually swept the Giants in 4 games.
In the Fall of ’89 Janet Jackson was riding high with her album Rhythm Nation 1814 which became the best selling album of 1990 selling over 12 million copies and “Miss You Much” spent four weeks at #1, the first of eight singles from the album.
