Saturday morning at 9 105.7 KOKZ brings you American Top 40 the 70’s!  This weekend Casey Kasem takes us back to July 29th, 1978 and one of the songs on the show is today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Steely Dan with “FM (No Static at All)”.

Donald Fagen said that they had just finished up work on their classic “Aja” album when they were asked to record a song for a new movie called “FM”.  The only requirement was that the song had to be about FM radio. Along with Walter Becker the two studio wizards hammered out the song in a couple of days.  The song was a #22 hit in ’78.

The song and the movie soundtrack fared much better than “FM” the movie.  It bombed at the box office and has a 20% score on Rotten Tomatoes.  Though some have said may have been the inspiration for “WKRP in Cincinnati” that debuted that fall.

Either way it’s a good time to crank up a little Steely Dan!  Check out a live performance of “FM (No Static at All)”, it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
