It was on this date 39 years ago “Aliens” hit movie theaters to scare us all to death! So for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to July 18th, 1986 for GTR and “When the Heart Rules the Mind”.
GTR was a supergroup founded in ’85 by Steve Howe from Yes and former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett and their only album was produced by Geoff Downes from Asia. Critics panned the project, one saying the album “managed to make two of the most distinctive rock guitarists sound like autopiloted sessioneers”. Despite that, the album did sell over 500,000 copies and “When the Heart Rules the Mind” went to #14 on the charts. The group disbanded in 1987.
“Aliens” the sequel to the ’79 classic “Alien”, fared much better becoming one of the biggest movies of 1986 and is now considered one of the best films of the 80’s. Long live Ripley!
No monsters here, just GTR with “When the Heart Rules the Mind” it’s today’s Forgotten 45!
