The song was their first and only hit song released in March of 1985. The song was about the collapse of the shipping industry in Britain and the group wanted to write a folk song with an African type chorus. Thus “Ah Hey Ma Ma Ma” was born! “Life in a Northern Town” went to #7 on the charts and was a top 10 hit in Ireland, Australia and Canada.
