Today is Ronnie Milsap’s 81st birthday, so in celebration, we go back to 1981 for his biggest pop hit, “(There’s) No Gettin’ Over Me”, today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45.
The country music legend was one of the biggest crossover stars in the 70’s and 80’s and his list of awards would fill this blog and then some. Born nearly blind in North Carolina and abandoned by his mother, Ronnie was raised by his grandparents in the Smokey Mountains until the age of 5 when he attended the North Carolina State School for the Blind in Raleigh. His biography is a terrific story of persevering through tragedy.
All told, Ronnie recorded 36 #1 Country hits and (There’s) No Gettin’ Over Me became his biggest crossover hit reaching #5 on the pop chart in 1981.
Back in my country radio days, I had the opportunity to interview Ronnie, and I have to tell you, he was incredibly gracious, and a terrific entertainer. I remain a fan of music to this day. Happy Birthday Ronnie Milsap, check out the video of “(There’s) No Gettin’ Over Me” today’s Forgotten 45.
