I hope you had a terrific Thanksgiving weekend! We’re back at it with another Forgotten 45 at 3:45 and on this date in 1941, singer Eddie Rabbitt was born, and this week in 1982 Eddie was on the country & pop charts with “You & I” his duet with Crystal Gayle.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Eddie started his career as a songwriter writing hits like “Kentucky Rain” for Elvis. He signed his first record deal in 1975 but his career really took off after touring as the opening act for Kenny Rogers, and then Dolly Parton in 1978, recording his first crossover hit “Every Which Way But Loose” which became his first pop hit and helped usher in the era of country/pop crossover hits.
“You and I” was his last pop top ten hit, reaching #7 on the charts in late 1982 and became the 12th most popular song of the year. Sadly Eddie Rabbitt passed away in 1998 from lung cancer at the age of 56.
