This Sunday from 8 to noon, 105.7 KOKZ brings you American Top 40 the 80’s! This weekend Casey Kasem features the top songs from November 14th, 1981, it’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Billy Joel with “Say Goodbye to Hollywood”.
The song originally appeared on his 1976 album “Turnstiles” as the opening track, but gained chart attention in ’81 as part of Joel’s first live album “Songs From the Attic”. It was written after Billy moved back to New York after being in Los Angeles in the early 70’s trying to get out of a bad record deal.
Written as a tribute to the sound of Ronnie Spector and the Ronettes song “Be My Baby” the song reached #17 on the charts in 1981. He recently announced that his final show at Madison Square Garden (his 150th there!) will be held on July 25th, 2024.
