Long before he became known as tabloid fodder and a reality tv star with his then wife Whitney Houston, Bobby Brown had quite a hot streak of songs from 1988 to 1992 with 8 top ten hits like “Roni”, “Don’t Be Cruel”, and “On Our Own” from Ghostbusters II. “My Prerogative” was written from his perspective as to why he left the group New Edition. The song became his only solo #1 hit, reaching the top of the chart in January of 1989.
