For today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to this week in 1983, 40 years ago for the first Top 40 hit for Elvis Costello & the Attractions with “Everyday I Write the Book”.
In a career that started in 1977, Elvis recorded 32 albums, 6 live records, and 4 box sets, but only hit the Billboard Top 40 twice. His biggest hit was “Veronica” in ’87 which reached #19 and “Everyday I Write the Book” which appeared on the countdown 40 years ago before stalling at #36.
Costello said he wrote the song in 10 minutes and in his words, wasn’t emotionally attached to at all, and it became one of the songs that people really liked. The video features Prince Charles & Lady Diana and you can check out “Every Day I Write the Book” from Elvis Costello, today’s Forgotten 45.
