Every Sunday morning from 8 to noon 105.7 KOKZ brings you American Top 40 the 80’s! This weekend Casey Kasem will feature the top songs from September 29th, 1984, it’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from David Bowie with “Blue Jean”.
The legendary performer recorded 13 top 40 hits starting with “Space Oddity” in 1969 all the way up to 2015’s “Lazerus” recorded just before his death in January of 2016. One of the most influential artists of all-time, his work was by critics and other musicians as well.
It’s no surprise that an artist as flamboyant as David Bowie would find success during the video music era. His greatest commercial success came from his “Let’s Dance” album which delivered several hit singles. The follow-up album was “Tonight” released in 1984, an album that he wasn’t particularly fond of, he thought he was pandering his music to a new audience and called it his “Phil Collins” era. Ouch!
From that album “Blue Jean” was a #8 hit and pandering or not, “Tonight” went on to sell over 2 million copies and in true Bowie fashion, delivered an interesting video. Check out “Blue Jean” today’s Forgotten 45.
