It was announced last week that Queen and Adam Lambert will be touring North America later this year, so for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to 1984 for Queen’s “Radio Ga Ga”.

The song was written by the band’s drummer Roger Taylor who heard his son say the words “ca ca” when hearing a bad song on the radio while they were in Los Angeles.  He locked himself in a room with a synthesizer and a drum machine and thought he had come up with song that would work for a solo album.  As it turns out the band heard it, John Deacon added a bass line, and Freddie Mercury polished the lyrics and it became a hit.

The song appears on their album “The Works” and the song hit #1 in the UK and #16 in the US, becoming the last single to reach the top 20 in Freddie Mercury’s lifetime.

Queen will be in Chicago and St. Paul later this fall, in the meantime enjoy the video to “Radio Ga Ga” today’s Forgotten 45.
