This Saturday morning from 8 to noon, 105.7 KOKZ brings you American Top 40 the 70’s.  This weekend Casey Kasem features the top songs from January 13th, 1979, it’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from the Talking Heads with “Take Me to the River”.

A song originally written and recorded by Al Green in 1974, one writer said “Green’s song squares the singer’s early religious convictions with more earthly interests”.  When Green became a pastor in 1976, he dropped the song from his shows.

Enter the Talking Heads! They recorded the song for their second album “More Songs About Buildings and Food” in the Bahamas.  David Byrne was against the idea of doing this song because he didn’t think they should do a cover.  Producer Brian Eno won out, and the song went on to be a #26 hit in February of 1979.
