Happy 74th Birthday to Tom Johnston of the Doobie Brothers, born on this date in 1948.  To celebrate, we go back to their 1972 album Toulouse Street for “Rockin’ Down the Highway” today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45.

Tom was one of the original members of the Doobie Brothers, born in California and started playing guitar at the age of 12. Johnston wrote and sang many of The Doobie Brothers’ early hits including Listen to the Music, China Grove, and Long Train Runnin’.

And while “Rockin’ Down the Highway” didn’t make the pop charts, it’s one of the Doobie’s well known tunes, it’s a great summer song and it’s sung by Tom Johnston!

Check out the live performance from their 2018 Live From the Beacon Theater concert!
