This Saturday morning from 8 until noon 105.7 KOKZ brings you American Top 40 the 70’s. This weekend Casey features July 28th, 1979 it’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from John Stewart and “Gold”.
His buddy Jim Bass is still pumping gas and hopefully making more than $2.50 an hour, but this song takes a cynical look at the music industry in Los Angeles. The song was a top 5 hit in the US, Canada, and Australia and features the great Stevie Nicks on backing vocals.
John eventually would stop performing it in concert calling it “vapid” and “empty” and having no meaning to him. Well I think it’s a cool song and I love the fact that he looks like an extra in a Starsky & Hutch episode on this video clip!
