Happy 78th Birthday to Patti LaBelle born Patricia Louise Holt on this date in 1944. She began her career in the early 60’s as the lead singer of Patti LaBelle and the Bluebells. In 1970 they shortened the name to Labelle and hit #1 on the charts in 1975 with “Lady Marmalade” and song that has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
In a career that has spanned seven decades, she has sold more than 50 million records worldwide. LaBelle has been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the Apollo Theater Hall of Fame.
