The NFL Draft got underway last night in Las Vegas and it was a great night for two Iowa natives.

The New Orleans Saints picked UNI’s Trevor Penning with the 19th selection in the first round.  Trevor becomes the first ever Panther to be chosen in the first round.  He played his high school football at Mason City Newman.

Then with the 25th pick, the Baltimore Ravens chose Iowa’s Tyler Linderbaum from Solon.  The Rimington Trophy winner and All-American becomes the 11th Hawkeye chosen in the first round under head coach Kirk Ferentz.

Rounds 2 and 3 will happen Friday night with rounds 4-7 on Saturday.  We’ll keep an eye on the Hawks, Cyclones, and Panthers as they make the leap to the NFL.
