Peter Cetera & Amy Grant – The Next Time I Fall

Bobby Caldwell and Peter Gordon wrote the song together with Peter Cetera’s voice in mind and were looking for Chicago to record the song. They had no idea Cetera was leaving Chicago but, by chance, a demo of the tape ended up with Cetera as it was sitting at his producer’s office. He loved it and called Caldwell and Gordon about recording the song for his solo album, ‘Solitude/Solitaire’.

“It was meant to be!” Caldwell said.

Now, to find a female voice… They had thought about bringing in a unknown vocalist and possibly launching her career, The record company suggested Amy Grant, who was looking to make a crossover from Contempoary Christian music to the Pop charts. After meeting with Cetera and the writers separately, she agreed and recorded the duet.

It debuted on the Hot 100 in 1986 and spent 21 weeks there where it peaked at #1!
