In memory and tribute to one of the most solid and steadfast drummers of all-time, Charlie Watts, who passed away today at 80.
The Rolling Stones – Emotional Rescue

The title track from The Rolling Stones’ 1980 album, “Emotional Rescue” was part of the “disco direction” that Mick Jagger was steering the band towards. Keith Richards was not a fan and it became a point of contention between the two for years…
“While Keith plays guitar and backing vocals on the track, Mick used his falsetto voice to sing the lyrics, remembering how Marvin Gaye’s “Got To Give It Up” released in 1977. Mick wrote the song on an electric piano and sang the lyrics as he wrote them in that falsetto voice. You can hear the precision in Charlie Watts drumming from the beginning, with no big fills, but some interesting additions to the basic drumming. Watts was no slouch beind the kit.
The great Bobby Keys plays sax on the record!
“Emotional Rescue” climbed the charts right away and peaked at #3 in 1980.
