I apologize for the lack of beer blogs over the last few months. I haven’t really had any desire to have any beer… of any kind. That is troubling since I’m still getting my BeerBox monthly deliveries. Long story short – I HAVE A FRIDGE WITH A TON OF BEER! I need to have a party or something to get rid of this stuff!

However, my love for good, craft beer hasn’t waned. In fact, this week, I’ve been reinvigorated! There are two reasons for that.

  1. The Craft Beer Bash in Amana is coming soon! Sunday, September 5th from 1p-5p with 50+ craft breweries attending and offering unlimited samples of their brews to attendees! General admission is $45, VIP – $70. (VIP passes include one-hour of early admission and VIP tastings from the Millstream Brewing Co. barrel room.) Also, LIVE MUSIC from The Surf Zombies! Purchase tickets at Millstreambrewing.com .
  2. Our sister station, Rock 108 is debuting their own craft beer at the Beer Bash! The Rock Bock is a classic bock recipe that is a great, flavorful bock that is perfect for any occasion! Great for tailgating, grilling, or just enjoying with friends. I’ve tasted this brew this week and I was excited for the possibilities and the future of having our own beer for public consumption. It is truly a wonderful beer and I’m not just saying that… Rock is part of the NRG Media family, but it’s not my station, so if it wasn’t good, I’d just be saying that they have their own brew and would leave it at that. I pride myself on my integrity and my reviews of the many beers I’ve had and the many more to come. I wouldn’t want to tarnish that.

I’m very excited about the release of this bock because it so good! It’s an easy drinker with a lot of flavor. Bronze in color with an off-white two-finger head and lots of malt aroma. That the main note, as it is with most classic bock style brews. Now, I have to say that I tasted a fresh batch. So fresh that the yeast hadn’t really settled yet so it was also very bready. Same with the taste. Malty, bready, with what seems like an anise or clove note, but that usually comes from the malt mash and the presence of fresh yeast. It’s not really either one of those flavors, it’s just a biproduct of the fermentation. I really like the character that all of those flavors bring to the palate but, as the rep, Steve said, in a few more days, that character will change and be less yeast forward and more malt present. I really can’t say enough good things about this very fine classic bock and I think you’ll agree when you taste it.

I will be at the Beer Bash as will my afternoon compatriot/competition, Ned on Rock 108, 12p-5p. Looking forward to seeing and meeting many of you there!
