Another suggestion from a listener for a GREAT one! Debbie from Cedar Rapids suggested a rarely heard song anymore, anywhere!

Billy Thorpe – Children Of The Sun

English born Australian singer/songwriter released a concept album in 1979. ‘Children Of The Sun’ was originally released in 1979 but was redone and released again in 1987 as ‘Children Of The Sun…. Revisited’ meaning changed up quite a bit. Sme of the original songs were on the 1987 record, some were omitted and there were new songs added to the new version.

If you’ve ever heard the song “Children Of The Sun”, you remember it. It’s a fantastical song with sound effects to help you picture in your mind what it being told in song.

It never hit the Hot 100, it was played as a staple on FM rock/Album Oriented Rock stations and was requested a lot. Even as far into 1994-95, I was getting requests for it and playing it in the Quad Cities.

However, the ALBUM sold well and made it Billboard’s 200 album chart where it peaked at #39, based on this one single.

How is the rest of the record? Eh…. Nothing special. Nothing as exciting and attention grabbing as the title track. It’s mainly what Billy Thorpe is known for in the states.

*EXTRA* Billy is only slightly remembered as being part of a band from 1990 that released one album. He joined with  Mick Fleetwood (of Fleetwood Mac) and Bekka Bramlett (daughter of Bonnie in Delany & Bonnie) in Fleetwood’s side project, a band called The Zoo, which resulted in “Shakin the Cage” which got some air play on rock radio and MTV for a short time.
