This morning on the Waters Wake-Up Call, Mike was featuring one-hit wonders, so for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 I found one, on the charts August 18th of 1979 from Nick Lowe with “Cruel To Be Kind”.
The one and only American hit for English singer, songwriter, and producer Nick Lowe was originally the B side of a song called “Little Hitler” in 1978. His record company urged him to re-record it for his album “Labour of Lust”. It turned out to be a smart decision as the song went to #12 on the charts and Nick is happy the song continues to be remembered today.
The video for the song was the 67th ever to be played on MTV and featured real footage of his marriage to Carlene Carter which actually happened on this date in 1979. It’s a One-Hit Wonder Forgotten 45 from Nick Lowe with “Cruel To Be Kind”!
