The blockbuster movie “Ghostbusters” debuted in theaters on June 8th, 1984, so that gives me an excuse to play the theme song by Ray Parker Jr. as today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45!

The supernatural comedy starring Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, and Harold Ramis as “ghostbusters” in New York City was the #1 movie in America for 7 straight weeks and ended up being the 2nd most successful movie of ’84 behind only “Beverly Hills Cop”.  Even Roger Ebert in his review for the film noted the movie’s incredible about of quotable lines. Of course the success of “Ghostbusters” spawned 4 more movies including “Ghostbusters II”, “Ghostbusters: Afterlife”, and “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire”, even an all-female “Ghostbusters” in 2016.

And while the song is anything but forgotten, Ray Parker Jr’s tune “Ghostbusters” was the song of the Summer of 1984 reaching #1 for three weeks and it was also released on June 8th that year.

They came, they saw, they kicked some ass!  Happy 42nd anniversary to “Ghostbusters”, it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
