For today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we take you back to June 2nd, 1984 for Joe Jackson with “You Can’t Get What You Want”!

The British singer began playing music young and started with the violin before switching to the piano at 11 years old.  It turned out to be a smart move, he was playing in bars at 16, and when he was 18 he received a scholarship London’s Royal Academy of Music.

In 1978 he was signed by A&M Records and created the Joe Jackson Band a mix of rock, jazz, and new wave.  He hit the top 40 in the States only 4 times, his biggest hit being the #6 song “Steppin’ Out” in ’82.  “You Can’t Get What You Want” was his final chart single peaking at #15 in the Summer of 1984.
