Welcome to the Monday Forgotten 45 at 3:45!  For today’s tune we go back to March 9th, 1985 for the Commodores with “Nightshift”.

Written as a tribute to R&B legends Jackie Wilson and Marvin Gaye, “Nightshift” became the first hit for the Commodores after Lionel Richie had left the group.  From the album of the same name, the group originally didn’t want the song to be released as a single.  The label released it and it became the Commodores final top 10 hit reaching #3 on the charts and also won a Grammy for Best Vocal R&B Performance.

A hit that was on the charts today in ’85 it’s the Commodores with “Nightshift”.  The Forgotten 45 is sponsored by Honey Creek Furniture in Manchester, Eastern Iowa’s fastest growing La-Z-Boy Store.  Look for them at honeycreekfurniture.com.
