Singer-songwriter James Ingram was born on this date in 1952 so for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 how about his first hit song with Quincy Jones it’s “Just Once”.
Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, Ingram attended the University of Akron on a track scholarship, but the lure of music brought him to Los Angeles where he earned $50 as a session singer for “Just Once”. In fact James also did the vocals for “One Hundred Ways”, both songs appearing the Quincy Jones album “The Dude” in 1981. In all James Ingram recorded 8 top 40 hits in the 80’s into the early 90’s.
Sadly he passed away from brain cancer back in January of 2019 at the age of only 66. But on what would’ve been his 74th birthday, his music lives on. Check out his appearance on Soul Train performing “Just Once”. Today’s Forgotten 45 is sponsored by Honey Creek Furniture in Manchester, Eastern Iowa’s fastest growing La-Z-Boy store.
