The English singer Robert Palmer was born on this date in 1949, so for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to 1986 for his hit “I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On”.
Palmer scored his first American Top 40 hit in 1978 with “Every Kinda People” and followed that up with his top 15 hit “Bad Case of Loving You” in ’79. His first 3 albums in the early 80’s didn’t do much at all, but in March of ’85 he worked with The Power Station to deliver hits like “Some Like It Hot” and “Get It On”.
In November of ’85 he released his 8th solo album “Riptide” which featured the #1 song and MTV classic video “Addicted to Love” and “I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On” almost made it to the top of the charts, reaching #2.
Sadly Robert Palmer died of a heart attack in September of 2003, but his music lives on, check out the video for “I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On” it’s today’s Forgotten 45.
