Freddie Mercury passed away on this date in 1991 so for the Monday Forgotten 45 at 3:45, we go back to 1980 for “Play the Game”.

Queen formed in London in 1970 with Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon and they went on to make music history with sales estimated as high as 300 million records.  Queen was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

In 1980 the band released their 8th album called “The Game” which became their best selling album in the United States and their only album to hit #1 with classics like “Another One Bites the Dust” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”.  “Play the Game” was the third single from the album it went to #14 in Britain, but only #42 in the US.

Freddie was diagnosed with AIDS in 1987 and on November 24th, 1991 at the age of only 45 years old, he passed away.  Gone 34 years but his music lives on, check out the video of “Play the Game” by Queen.  Today’s Forgotten 45 is sponsored by Honey Creek Furniture in Manchester, Eastern Iowa’s fastest growing La-Z-Boy store.  Look for them at honeycreekfurniture.com.
