It was on this date in 1987 that rescuers in Midland, Texas rescued 18 month old Baby Jessica from the well she had fallen in 58 hours earlier. And today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 was on the charts October 16th of 1987 from The Cars it’s “You Are the Girl”.
Remember the story of Jessica McClure? The nation was captivated by the story of the young girl who fell into a well on her grandmothers property. A media circus ensued as the nation kept up to date over the next two plus days until her rescue. There was even a made for TV movie on the event starring Patty Duke and Beau Bridges! Today Jessica is a wife and mother and still lives in Texas.
In August of 1987 The Cars released their album “Door To Door”, it was their poorest performing album of their career and only delivered one top 40 hit “You Are the Girl” a song that went to #17. It ended up being their final hit song and band broke up one year later.
