It was on this date in 1985 that Lynette Woodard was named the first ever female player for the Harlem Globetrotters!  And today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 was on the charts October 7th, 1985, from Sting it’s “Fortress Around Your Heart”.

Sting released his debut solo album “The Dream of the Blue Turtles” in the Summer of ’85.  It sold over 3 million copies, fresh off of the success of the final Police album “Synchronicity”.  The album featured 4 Top 40 hits and two top 10’s, “If You Love Somebody (Set Them Free) a #3 hit, and “Fortress Around Your Heart” which went to #8 on the Hot 100.

Lynette Woodard was the all-time leading scorer in women’s college basketball at Kansas before being passed by Caitlin Clark in February of 2024.  40 years ago today she became the first female player for the Harlem Globetrotters who are celebrating their 100th year.  They’ll be in Cedar Rapids on February 13th.
