It was on this date in 1982 the TV classic “Cheers” debuted on NBC so for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to September 30th of ’82 for Asia with “Only Time Will Tell”.
The supergroup that included John Wetton from King Crimson & Uriah Heep, Steve Howe from Yes, Geoff Downes from Yes & the Buggles, and Carl Palmer from Emerson, Lake, and Palmer formed in ’81 and released their debut album in March of ’82. The self-titled album spent 9 weeks at #1 and sold over 4 million copies featuring the top 5 hit “Heat of the Moment” and “Only Time Will Tell” which went to #17 on the charts.
As for “Cheers” the first season the show was ranked #74 out of 77 shows, but went on to become a classic over 275 episodes, including their 1993 finale which had an audience of over 42 million people.
