I was saddened to hear of the passing of Supertramp founder Rick Davies over the weekend at the age of 81. In tribute, today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 was Supertramp’s first top 40 hit in the U.S. “Bloody Well Right”.
The British band was formed in 1970 but their breakthrough was their 1974 album “Crime of the Century”. Starting as more of a progressive rock band, the group took a more mainstream approach which paid off with their biggest album “Breakfast in America” in 1979 which sold over 4 million copies and delivered classics like “Goodbye Stranger” and “The Logical Song”.
Rick was the lead voice of “Bloody Well Right” which was the B side of the song “Dreamer”, it went to #35 on the charts in 1974 becoming the first of their 9 top 40 hits. Rick passed away from blood cancer at 81 years old.
