I’m not sure where or how I got today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 stuck in my head, but now it will be stuck in yours! From 1981 it’s the Tom Tom Club with “Genius of Love”.
A group that was originally a side project from the Talking Heads, Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, the Tom Tom Club, named after a dancehall in the Bahamas where they rehearsed was born. Becoming popular in early 80’s club music, their self titled debut album was released on this date in 1981 and went platinum, thanks to their one and only top 40 hit “Genius of Love” which was a #1 dance song and went to #31 on the pop chart.
One of the most sampled hooks of all-time, it’s the Tom Tom Club with “Genius of Love” today’s Forgotten 45.
