The movie “Grease” debuted in theaters on this date 47 years ago! So for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to Rydell High for John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John with “Summer Nights”.
“Grease” was originally on Broadway and did over 3,000 shows between 1972 and 1980. It was turned into a motion picture starring John and Olivia as Danny and Sandy and it went on to become the highest grossing musical film at the time, making nearly $400 million dollars at the box office.
The soundtrack was equally successful, selling over 30 million copies and delivering the #1 title track by Frankie Valli, and another chart topper with “You’re The One That I Want” as well as “Hopelessly Devoted to You” a #3 hit. “Summer Nights” became the 4th top 5 hit from the album reaching #5 on the charts.
Remembering those “Summer Nights” it’s John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John with today’s Forgotten 45.
