It was on this date in 1987 that Shelley Long appeared in her episode of “Cheers” as Diane Chambers so for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 we go back to May 7th of ’87 for Bryan Adams and “Heat of the Night”.

America loved the “will they or won’t they” romance of Sam Malone & Diane on “Cheers” but Shelley Long left the show to focus on her film career and to spend more time with her family.  In her finale she was forced into deciding on leaving to finish her novel or staying and marrying Sam.  The rest is television history, though Shelley did return for the final episode of “Cheers” in May of 1993.  The show was watched by 42 million people becoming the 2nd biggest finale behind only MASH.

Meanwhile, Bryan Adams was on the charts with his 10th American Top 40 hit with “Heat of the Night”, the biggest hit from his album “Into the Fire”, the song went to #6 on charts in 1987.  The song was also the first to be released as a cassette single!

Bryan will release his 17th album “Roll With the Punches” later this summer.  “Cheers” to today’s Forgotten 45 “Heat of the Night”.
