TuNesDay Forgotten 45: Kenny Loggins

By Jeff Winfield Apr 16, 2024 | 3:43 PM

I read this morning that Orchestra Iowa will be performing live during a screening of the movie E.T. at the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids.  That inspired my choice for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Kenny Loggins with “Heartlight”.

The song was on the charts this week in 1983 and while many people think it was inspired by Steven Spielberg’s movie E.T. it’s actually about a school in Southern California called “Heartlight” and Kenny was inspired by the writings by students at the school.

Appearing on his album “High Adventure” the song reached #24 on the charts in 1983 and is often referred to as “Welcome to Heartlight” to avoid confusion with Neil Diamond’s song “Heartlight”.

As for the Orchestra Iowa performance with the movie, it will be held May 3rd and 4th at the Paramount Theatre.  Check out Kenny Loggins with “Heartlight” or “Welcome to Heartlight” today’s Forgotten 45.
