On this date in 1980, an estimated 83 million people tuned in to “Dallas” to find out “Who Shot J.R.?”. So for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45, we go back to this week 43 years ago for a song by John Lennon “(Just Like) Starting Over”.
Little did we know as we were watching Dallas, just over two weeks later on December 8th, 1980, John Lennon would be shot and killed outside of his New York by Mark David Chapman. The song was the first single from his final album Double Fantasy and after his tragic death, went to #1 and went on to be the #4 song of 1981.
As for Who Shot J.R.? It was Kristin Shepard, played by Mary Crosby who shot JR Ewing, played by Larry Hagman, on this date in 1980. Today we remember John Lennon with “(Just Like) Starting Over” today’s Forgotten 45.
