October 17th is National Pay Back a Friend Day and I’m uh…a little short this week, I’ll settle up next week. Pay back your friends and enjoy a “friend” tune from Clarence Clemons & Jackson Browne with “You’re a Friend of Mine” today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45.
Best known as the long-time sax player for Bruce Springsteen & the Street Band, Clarence Clemons released his solo album “Hero” in 1985 which featured this tune with Jackson Browne and his then girlfriend Darryl Hannah who appeared in the video & provided background vocals.
The song was a big hit that year reaching #16 on the charts and he went on to appear in movies like Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and appeared on TV shows like The Simpsons, Nash Bridges, and The Wire. Sadly Clarence Clemons passed away after a stroke in 2011 at the age of 69.
