As we wrap up the Summer of ’23 on this gray Friday, we need a fun tune for the Forgotten 45 at 3:45! And I found one that you can hear again Saturday night at 9 on Absolutely 80’s from M with “Pop Muzik”.
M is English musician Robin Scott who was ahead of the curve when it came to making videos, the song came out in 1979 and MTV didn’t debut until 1981! Originally recorded in a Funk & R and B style, a friend convinced Robin to use synthesizers instead. Robin said “I was looking to make a fusion of various styles which somehow would summarize the last 25 years of pop music. That’s why I really wanted to make a simple, bland statement, which was, ‘All we’re talking about basically (is) pop music”.
It worked! “Pop Muzik” was a #1 hit in the US and several other countries around the world and it’s today’s Forgotten 45!
