Happy Birthday to Nina Blackwood who celebrated her 68th birthday earlier this week! She’s the host of Absolutely 80’s every Saturday night at 9 on 105.7 KOKZ. It’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from the Pointer Sisters with “Neutron Dance”.
June, Ruth, and Anita Pointer grew up in Oakland, California under the watchful eyes of their parents Reverend Elton Pointer and Sarah Pointer. Growing up the Pointers were told that rock & roll and the blues were “the devil’s music”. They regularly sang at their church growing up and as they got older their love for other styles of music grew.
They found their greatest commercial success in the 80’s with hits like “I’m So Excited”, “Automatic”, and “Jump (For My Love)”. “Neutron Dance” appeared on their 1983 album “Break Out” but wasn’t released until it’s use in the classic movie “Beverly Hills Cop”.
A great up-tempo tune on this Throwback Thursday, the Pointers with “Neutron Dance” today’s Forgotten 45.
