Today we wish Tommy Shaw of Styx a very happy 70th birthday!  To celebrate, we’ll play one of the songs he sang lead on for the Forgotten 45 at 3:45, “Too Much Time on My Hands”.

Tommy of course sang lead on many classic Styx songs like “Fooling Yourself”, “Renegade”, and “Blue Collar Man”.  “Too Much Time on My Hands” appeared on their “Paradise Theater” and was the 2nd hit single from that LP.

The song was a #2 rock hit and a #9 pop hit in 1981 and a critic from Pop Matters rated the video ’80s music videos that have aged terribly,” criticizing its cheesiness, the “band’s period attire,” “mullets galore, perms, girls with feathered hair, and Joe Dirt in the baby blue jumpsuit on vocals.

See if you agree, it’s Styx with “Too Much Time on My Hands” today’s Forgotten45!
