Today is the 61st birthday of actress Ally Sheedy, so for today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45, we’ll play a song from one of the movies she starred in, “Short Circuit” and from that film it’s El DeBarge with “Who’s Johnny?”
Ally made her motion picture premiere in 1983 in “Bad Boys” with Sean Penn and went on to be a part of the Brat Pack and starred in War Games, The Breakfast Club, and Short Circuit in 1986. The film’s plot centers on an experimental military robot that is struck by lightning and gains a human-like intelligence, prompting it to escape its facility to learn more about the world. The movie also featured Steve Guttenberg, Fisher Stevens, and the robot named “Number 5”.
The song “Who’s Johnny” was the debut solo hit for El DeBarge and went all the way to #3 on the charts and was also parodied by Weird Al with his polka tune “Here’s Johnny”.
