This Saturday morning at 9, 105.7 KOKZ brings you American Top 40 the 70’s from May 28th, 1977.  It’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from the Marshall Tucker Band with “Heard it in a Love Song”.

This was the highest charting hit for the band, reaching #14 in the Summer of ’77.  The band was an important part of establishing the “Southern Rock” genre.  The South Carolina based band performed for over 50 years.

Interesting fact.  The “Marshall Tucker” in the band’s name does not refer to a band member, but rather a blind piano tuner from South Carolina. While the band was discussing possible band names one evening in an old warehouse they had rented for rehearsal space, someone noticed that the warehouse’s door key had the name “Marshall Tucker” inscribed on it, and suggested they call themselves “The Marshall Tucker Band,” not realizing it referred to an actual person.

Check out a live performance from 1981 of “Heard It in a Love Song” today’s Forgotten 45!
