Every Saturday night from 9 to midnight, we turn 105.7 KOKZ over to Nina Blackwood for Absolutely 80’s, 3 hours of great 80’s tunes! It’s where I found today’s Forgotten 45 at 3:45 from Whitney Houston with “So Emotional”.
The song was the third hit from her 1987 “Whitney” album and became her 6th straight #1 record! “So Emotional” was written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly who also wrote the #1 songs “Like A Virgin” for Madonna, “True Colors” for Cyndi Lauper, and “Eternal Flame” for the Bangles…all #1 songs.
The song was the final one recorded for this album, the legendary Clive Davis wanted one more up-tempo song and like most times in his career, his instincts were correct.
I remember seeing Whitney in concert at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in 1987 and she said “Hello Iowa State”, as you can imagine, that didn’t go over well in Iowa City.
