Today’s we wish the Stray Cats lead singer Brian Setzer a very Happy 64th Birthday and we celebrate with one of their songs for the Forgotten 45 at 3:45, “(She’s) Sexy & 17”!
The Stray Cats were formed in 1979 with Brian, Lee Rocker, and Slim Jim Phantom on Long Island, New York. Inspired by the rockabilly sounds of Sun Records and the 50’s, the band developed a large following in New York clubs. When they heard that England was going through a 50’s revival, they moved to the UK and blended their 50’s sound with punk rock.
The band had 3 top ten hits with “Rock This Town”, “Stray Cat Strut” and their final top 10 appearance with “Sexy and 17” that reached #5 on the charts in early 83. Brian decided to move on after five years saying he was restless and didn’t have the same feeling and felt it was time to move on.
