Kenny Rogers and The First Edition – Something’s Burning

Released at the very beginning of 1970, “Something’s Burning” became quite controversial due to it’s “sensuality”.
Radio stations wouldn’t play it because it seemed too sexy? Well, in 1970, Americans were still pretty prudish, or so the execs in radio and TV thought.
Keny Rogers and The First Edition put the album out by the same name, just to create more focus on the single. Kenny also got the band on This Is Tom Jones, a regular show in England and they played it there. That show was also broadcast in the U.S., so the song did get enough exposure to force radio stations to play it.
It peaked at#11 on the Hot 100, showing programmers, at the time, they really didn’t know their listeners very well.
